Dan Zhaoyi, a renowned Chinese piano educator and professor, recipient of the State Council's special government allowance, Professor Emerita at Shenzhen Arts School, dean of the Piano Art Research Institute at Sichuan Conservatory of Music, advisor to the Piano Society of the Chinese Musicians Association, and honorary chairman of the Shenzhen Musicians Association.
Having engaged in piano teaching for over fifty years, a total of 26 of his students have won 70 awards in international piano competitions, with 26 first-place prizes. His most famous students, Yundi Li, Sa Chen, and Haochen Zhang, have successively won major awards at top-tier international competitions such as the Chopin International Piano Competition, the Leeds International Piano Competition, and the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, marking a historic significance in the history of Chinese piano education and performance.
In addition to teaching, Professor Dan is prolific in writing, having authored significant works such as "Piano Teaching and Guidance for Children," "Dan Zhaoyi's Piano Teaching Essays," and "Dan Zhaoyi's Piano Teaching Records." He has compiled and edited textbooks like "New Piano Introduction and Progression" and "New Path Piano Fundamental Course," as well as academic papers including "On the Performance of Polyrhythms in Piano Works," "The Design and Application of Dynamics in Piano Performance," "On the Technical Principles and Application of Piano Sound," "The Dialectical Relationship between Artistic Performance and Performance Techniques in Music," and "A Brief Discussion on the Musical Style of Chopin."
He is frequently invited to serve as a judge in significant piano competitions both domestically and internationally, including the China Music Golden Bell Award National Piano Competition, the Japan Asia Chopin International Piano Competition, the Paderewski International Piano Competition, the Aachen International Piano Competition in Germany, the Paris International Piano Grand Prix in France, the Oberlin Cooper International Piano Competition in the USA, the Dublin International Piano Competition in Ireland, and the Madrid International Piano Competition in Spain.
